About us — A story of real organic growth
Things change, but with the right attitude, the things that matter can be sustainable. That’s our belief. We’re the little company that could. And did. Now we’re a bigger company, but we’re still doing it right. This makes us happy. Proud, too. A growing number of people think Stonyfield is the best yogurt. Our organic yogurt is free of pesticides,and a bunch of other things that should never be in food. The organic, probiotic yogurt we make gives concerned and aware people healthy (and truly delicious) choices for themselves that also benefit our planet. And a whole bunch of cows. This is how it all began…
Our Company
Stonyfield was founded in Wilton, New Hampshire in 1983 as an organic farming school. Our goal was simple: to teach people that sustainable agriculture is a food production system with a future.
We began with a few Jersey cows and a great yogurt recipe. We no longer have our own cows but we're still committed to producing the best-tasting, healthiest yogurt possible, and doing some good in the world while we're at it.
Our modest beginnings were followed by a period of tremendous growth and success, and we became the third-largest yogurt brand in the U.S. Thanks to Danone, Stonyfield yogurt is now produced in Canada since 2006. Our yogurt is made in Quebec using pure, organic milk from local organic farmers and natural, organic ingredients, and sold from coast to coast in Canada.
As it was more than 20 years ago, responsible environmental stewardship and the development of a sustainable agricultural system is a cornerstone of our business. Today, we donate 10% of our profits each year to efforts that help protect or restore the planet. We put our money where our mouth is.

A part of our mission is to help protect the health of our planet by promoting and supporting sustainable farming practices. We can and are making a difference in reducing greenhouse gases and offsetting the negative effects of climate change.
Healthy food
At Stonyfield, we're committed to keeping artificial ingredients out of food. That's why we use only natural and organic ingredients – never preservatives, or artificial flavours, colours or sweeteners like some other brands. We only use pure milk from organic dairies, and all of our organic ingredients are free from toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilizers. Our organic yogurt contains all the goodness of five active cultures. Our products are certified organic by Canada Organic and Quebec Vrai.
Healthy people
We believe that "you are what you eat" and that healthy food sustains healthy people.
But it goes beyond that. One of our core objectives is to inform and educate consumers and producers about the value of organic foods and protecting the environment through sustainable farming methods. An important aspect of sustainable farming methods is the health of farm workers. One study reported that pesticide poisonings amongst farm workers has risen an average of 14% a year since 1973. Health risks such as cancer and even death have been related to chronic and acute pesticide exposure.
